Over this summer, the girls and I’ve gotten used to Drex being away from home. Even though we can manage on our own quite pleasantly, we still wish that either he could stay or we could go with him. Luckily, this conference in San Diego is the last trip for awhile.
Before he left, I needed to take some pictures of Drex. He’s a good looking guy. But I wasn’t just taking his picture for kicks. I had a plan! A whimsical crafty sewing plan!
Daddypillows! They’re inspired by Sonya’s people drawings. To give the girls something fun to hug and to hold, I did a quick afternoon project with their intermittent help and giggling.
The daddypillows are stuffed with rice, so they can be warmed in the microwave for a toasty cuddle. There’s a pocket in the back where a flat little surprise or a note can be stashed. And there are two little legs for grabbing and swinging.
Leena picked the daddypillow with the red legs. She likes red. She has red shoes. Sonya got the blue daddypillow. She giggled as daddypillow sat in a bowl in the microwave and spun around for thirty seconds. Then she cuddled with him last night and slept in Leena’s crib.
This morning, the daddypillows sat in the empty chair at the breakfast table and watched us eat our bowls of cereal.
“Those are really silly, Mommy,” Sonya said. “We should make a few more.”

Those are adorable! I just have one question, how did you get the photo onto the pillow?
these are so cute and fun! what a great idea! i dk that C mises Troy yet – but i need a husbandpillow. :)
Kindli— Printable inkjet fabric! Available at craft stores in the same section as the T-shirt transfers.
I love those! What a great idea. Maybe he needs little daughter pillows to take with him when he goes.
Those *are* silly … which is one of the ways in which these pillows are accurate representations of Daddy. You think of such special ways to maintain my presence at home – knowing that gives me a lot of solace while I go on these trips and miss you all so much.
Meanwhile, I love the idea of daughter pillows! I should take the whole family along! I actually have a microwave in my hotel room here in San Diego, so I could warm the whole pillow family up and stick you here in my big, lonely bed.
Those are awesome! What a neat/fun idea.
