In pursuit of better pictures

My six-week advanced photography workshop started today. I’ve really been looking forward to this! During my lunch break at work, I walked to the local print shop and spiral bound the entire course packet. On the bus ride home, I almost missed my stop, I was so engrossed in the first week’s materials.

Over the next month and a half, this space will be converted into a gallery for my assignments. I already feel that I’ve learned a great deal about choosing the right backdrop and working with natural light.

All these pictures were taken just outside of our house. We’re lucky enough to live in a picturesque neighborhood in Montreal.

This profile shot of Sonya showcases her funky haircut.

These are just some of the photos I took this evening. Later this week, I’m going to have fun working with props. Suggestions are welcome!

I’m a little envious. All of my photos are either w/my iphone or a little digital point-and-shoot. Those issues aside, will the course cover what I call “small child ACTION!!!” shots? where the subject is refusing to sit still – like when they’re on a tricycle, or running at top speed down the hall?

I decided I should probably pull out (download) the manual to my camera and see if I can’t learn some more about what some of the settings I never use are.
